Dandruff
Our skin is constantly renewing itself, which is normal. Old skin cells are shed without us noticing. On the body and face, we can use exfoliating creams to remove old skin, a pleasant beauty ritual we perform almost instinctively. But have you considered that the scalp also renews itself? This skin remains trapped in the hair, and we often don’t pay attention to it until a problem arises – namely, dandruff.
Dandruff is a phenomenon also known as skin flaking, resulting from the scalp’s natural renewal process. This means that when the tissue beneath the epidermis on the scalp dies, it becomes a horny layer that sheds upon reaching the surface, forming dandruff. With healthy skin, this process is unnoticeable, but sometimes, for various reasons, the shedding of skin flakes becomes clearly visible. Another unpleasant feature of dandruff is itching. Yes, the scalp begins to itch, which can lead to scratching and damaging the skin.
There are two types of dandruff: dry and oily.
Dry dandruff is usually not very noticeable, as it produces light white flakes. It occurs when the sebaceous glands in the scalp produce too little sebum.
Oily dandruff occurs when the scalp’s sebaceous glands are overactive, producing too much sebum in a short period. This dandruff is highly visible, forming yellowish, scale-like clusters that typically stick to the hair shaft.
Why does dandruff occur?
Dandruff can be caused by a combination of several factors and can occur at various times.
Main factors that trigger dandruff:
Hair care products that are unsuitable for your scalp
Washing hair too infrequently!!!
Proliferation of the yeast fungus (Malassezia) that is part of the skin’s microflora
Diet
Stress and constant worrying
Hormonal changes (including sweating)
Weakened immunity
Increased or, conversely, insufficient activity of the sebaceous glands
Weather (too cold or too hot)
Vitamin deficiency
How to get rid of dandruff?
First, determine if it is definitely dandruff. Often, a dry scalp that flakes and itches is mistaken for dandruff. If you are certain you have dandruff, start by reviewing your hair care products. I recommend using the gentlest possible products suitable for your specific scalp. Hair should be washed as often as your scalp requires. If that means washing every day, then that is what you should do. Washing removes excess sebum, dirt, and old skin cells. Also, review your diet and vitamins, and keep stress under control. Stay calm. Drink plenty of clean water.
The Lakmé hair care brand has also focused on scalp health, developing a specific range for scalp cleansing that includes products suitable for dandruff issues.
The range includes a shampoo and a gel applied to the scalp before shampooing to help dandruff particles detach more easily. The scalp microbiota improves, and irritation is reduced. It aids in the renewal of scalp cells, and the pleasant peppermint provides a long-lasting fresh feeling.
Don’t suffer from embarrassing dandruff!
